I'm approaching 8 years on the stock battery and although it has served me well, I think the time is near to retire it. It's never given me problems, and even survived my dead alternator episode from a year ago, but I don't want to push my luck anymore.

Tonight I had to leave the ignition switched to "on" (without the car running) while i was doing an OBD2 scan and after about 5-10 minutes the low voltage warning on my power invertor sounded (recall that the DRL's were on during this time). And sure enough when I tried to start the car it cranked slowly.

I think I'm going to go with the Motorcraft, based on what others have recommended. And who knows, maybe I'll get 8 years out of the replacement as well.

Oh and in case you're wondering, my car's only been garage-parked for 2 out of the 6 winters that I've owned it.

that's awesome for a battery. Mine went this past winter....was original from 98...7 years is a good run....could have stretched a bit more but was able to spend a few bucks in advance of being stranded somewhere. Gets kinda sticky with little kids.

When my stock battery for the Mystique went 3 years ago I got a used battery from the wreckers. It was from a 96 too. It is still running. I figure it is bound to die soon given its age but for the last 2 winters it would take a lot to crank over but it would get the job done none the less. It just doesn't want to die.

I checked yesterday and the green light on the battery is barely visible, so it definitely is time to replace it.

I've had a MotoMaster battery booster for the past year, it was on sale for 50% when I got it. I got one for my parents too. I've never had to use mine, but it's well worth the peace of mind as our cars get older.

That is how my light has looked since I got the battery.

Now there's an idea, I'll check the wreckers before going to the dealer.

I just changed my battery since my car had to be boosted several times.. If I were you I would go to Walmart and Test your battery.. I went there and got mine tested.. so they said it was toast.. I replaced it with an Energizer battery for $105 or so..

cheers
