I have a set of Pioneer 6x9s (pretty deep...) that I want to put in the front doors. Will they fit? And is it worth it to try to modify the car if the possiblity exists that they won't fit?

I bet you're gonna hear a bunch of "you should've searched" on this one

IIRC, they will fit with a little drilling for new holes (pretty extensive "modification", huh?), I think some people made mounting boards for them too. I'd wait for someone else to chime in though...

I did search...didn't find much. I looked under 6x9 door, etc... So basically I just drill some holes, and put something behind them to make them fit securley (MDF I'm guessing?)? And there isn't any fitment issues?

I had to cut a larger hole for my 6x9s and obviously redrill. I also ran into the problem of my window glass hitting the magnet on the way down. That was solved by using the 1/8in plastic back piece that the supplied grill mounts to. Basically bumped the speaker out 1/8in from the pervious location. Worked like a charm.

I did something similar to that in my escort, then one day i shut my door with the window down and shattered my glass to pieces, i was pissed, so be careful. I don't want that to happen to you.

Before I added the 1/8in the window was just pairly catching the window and would still go down. So the 1/8in did more than just let it barely squeeze by. But yes, be careful.

It all depends on the size of the magnet, compare the new speaker that you want to put in to the stock speaker. If the new one is deeper, then you will need spacers (sold at most car audio shops) Keep in mind too big of a spacer and the speaker will hit the door panel so the magnet hitting the window is only half of what you need to worry about.

Thanks for the suggestions, and warnings everyone. contour_phoenix_when, if I wanted buy new speakers, I would just go w/ 6x8s. I already have 6x9s I wanted to put in. So no one used any MDF or anything so they don't rattle? And people have put these in w/o breaking the glass and hitting the door that aren't low profile??
