I know, I know...absorb too much heat, warp, weak, wear out too fast, just plain explode into a bazillion pieces...
But will it really?
Reason I wonder is cuz I was just browsing around the internet for no reason and ran across a page about the Hennessy Venom 800TT...and it just so happens this bad boy has an aluminum flywheel. 800hp and 800ft-lbs of twin turbo goodness...with an aluminum fly!
And we're worried about damaging an aluminum flywheel with 200 pathetic horses?
Am I missing something? What...do Venom 800TT owners change their flywheel every 1000 miles and not tell anyone about this maintenance requirement?

I've heard words about aluminum warping, or scarring. Personally, if I had the money, I'd stick an aluminum flywheel on my car. I see no problems.

Actually the UR Aluminum Flywheel uses a billet steel center section inside the aluminum flywheel.
This gives the best of both worlds.
I would stay away from an straight aluminum flywheel. It could not dissipate heat, nor have the longevity required for day to day driving. (Stop and go traffic is murder on the clutch/fly/plate) Plus if you get too light you will have idle, acceleration, and drivability problems.

Since this topic has come up again I was planning on putting a Fidanza or a URD Flywheel. Does the fidanza have a billet steel center or is that why URD is just more expensive because it has it and Fidanza doesn't. I know there is a CEG member that is using the Fidanza and he says he hasn't had any problems yet with it. URD, Fidanza, or the steel Flywheel from SHO, I want to try and get as much power to the wheels as possible, I'm gonna install the URD Stage 1 Clutch with the flywheel and possibly the Quaife if money permits..

The Fidanza also has a steel billet center plating where the clutch plate and flywheel meet...
The Fidanza is the unit I'm getting...

for a street driven car, that is not pulled apart on at least a semi-regular basis I would absolutely stay away from an all-aluminum flywheel, just not enough durability for a car that meets these requirements. as to a aluminum outer w/ steel inner flywheel, I would go with this over an all aluminum wheel anyday, but I would still have some reservations over using it, especially on a car where it is such a hassle to get to the flywheel, if in fact it does fail and needs to be replaced.
It's all about balance.

What kind of problem will you run into if you S/C your car?
