I currently have a problem with my speedometer! When I am sitting either in park or at a red light, my speedometer needle goes crazy! All of the other guages are fine. It jumps up and down and sometimes just sits around 60-80 mph. I've noticed that the more things I have running (lights, stereo, A/C) the higher the needle will jump. If I rev up the car or start moving, the speedometer works fine.

It wouldn't be that big of a problem, but it racks up my odometer as well. All in all, I have about 25 miles (so far) on my car that I haven't actually driven.

I thought that it might have been the TSS (Turbine Shaft Sensor) on the side of the transmission, but I replaced that and the speedometer needle is still jumping.

Help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I look forward to changing my SE to a wannabe SVT!

Mine was doing the same thing in December and then it just stopped working. It ended up being the VSS, the sensor on the outside of the tranny that measures the speed of the tranny. pretty easy to replace. Just need small hands.

I'll see if I can find the how-to that used.

Here you go

VSS Replacement How-to

Let me know if you have any problems. I spent way too long trying to get the wrong pieces off. It should take about 30 mins TOPS. It took me a few day.

Hey my SVT did the same thing turns out it was actually the alternator, they replaced the computer, gauge cluster, and speed sensor, to finally figure out the alternator was the culprit.

just a thought for ya,

Yeah, that happened when my alternator was dying in my old GL.
