Did you think of shimming the base plates front 2 bolts to give it a slightly rear tilt to it.
I personally love the feel of mine alot.
I thought the stock shifter wasn't bad either, but then again I was coming from an 89 Conquest TSI that the stock gear throws included:
to the gas pedal to your crotch to the radio to the console to the glove box. The far back of the glove box mind you. That shifter got cut (2") very soon after I bought it
