Just in case any of you encounter this; I had a loss of power recently when I had punched the throttle. My '99 SE 2.5 has 125K on it, and it went from 100% to about 30% power. The accelerator pedal would go almost to the floor before opening the throttle. After poking around, I noticed that there is a small plastic link that connects the throttle body "cam" (I'm not sure what it's really called)to the accelerator cable "cam". One side of the link broke, disconnecting the accelerator to the throttle body. Fortunately, it still is able to open the throttle a little and I can drive it. It accelerates a little more like a VW bus now, but it will allow me to get it in for repair. I'll have to take it to a Ford dealer, as I'm sure this part is hard to find. Hopefully, they won't try to take me to the cleaners!

I just got back from the local Ford dealer. The broken linkage is part #9S523, and is only available with a complete throttle body. The throttle body is running me $198.00 (including tax).

It looks like a fairly simple process to change out the throttle body on the 2.5L, so I'll at least save on labor costs. It's certainly frustrating to have to go through the time and expense over a $0.50 piece of plastic!

Welcome to the CEG!
Good thing you can do the repair yourself and save the cost of labor.
Did you buy the part already? There are two dealerships that give the CEG members parts discounts. I'll post them for you in a few minutes.

Here they are: Signature Lincoln Mercury - Speak with Bill Jenkins and tell him that you are on the Contour Enthusiasts Group, the number is 1-800-876-3280. Great guy!

Or, call Steve at Tousley Ford, mention the "SVT Plan". You don't need to have an SVT to get the discount. IIRC, Ray said you get about a 50% discount or at times more. The number is, 1-800-328-9552.
