I will apologize for the long post, in advance, but please take the time to read and give me an informed opinion / solution. I did search and read FAQs before posting.
Just recently I have experienced problems with brakes I have never had before. I've done plenty of routine maintenance, and some maintenance that wasn't routine, on my cars and others' cars, with no problems / complaints.
Firstly, my old pads and rotors wouldn't stop the car after extended drives on the highway in the rain, until after a few seconds, as if they needed to dry off before they would stop the car. That was unsettling.
So I changed the front pads and rotors. I put Mintex A/F pads and Auto Zone Duralast (2 yr. warr.) rotors on. Now the car stops when it's wet out.
My problems now are that:
1) The pads are so close to the outside edge of the rotor that I think they may be hanging over the edge by a fraction of a millimeter. I actually ran my finger down the edge of the rotor and pulled off what I assumed to be brake pad friction material. I don't like that, even though I have been told not to worry about it. Every disc brake I've ever worked on has had a millimeter or two of space where the pad doesn't come in contact with the rotor.
2)Brakes are rubbing. I have also been told not to worry about this. Nothing insanely excessive, like when my E-brake was sticking, The car rolls fine, I can even rock the car back and forth by grabbing on to a tire and turning. But enough that they squeak when I pull out of the garage in the morning (how embarrasing), and after even a short drive, the rotors are so hot that I can't touch them for more than a split second, and I don't exactly have dainty, secretary hands.
As I am sure I will be asked, The fluid level in the reservoir is perfect, I cleaned everything thoroughly with non-chlorinated Brakleen, I applied the blue pad glue between caliper and pad, and I lubed the guide pins and pad ears with the green Permatex brake lube stuff.

Your pads aren't hanging over the edge of the rotor. The full pad has contact with the rotor, the pads actually sit inside the edge of the rotor. That ridge you fell is just rust from were the pad doesn't touch. Heat on rotors makes them rust like crazy, there is nothing you can do about it.

As said, the pad is not hanging over the edge of the rotor. It's just all the way on the edge, which is noraml.

As for the bit of rub; how many miles do you have on the new pads? And, did you apply the metal brakets on the back of the pads? I'm not 100% sure that this extra material would couse the rubbing, but it is a possibility.

Did you clean the slide pins really well, and lube them at the last intall? If the pins are not clean (I take mine of and run them under a wire-wheel) then things will be stiff, and can explain the rubbing.

o.k., thanks for putting my mind at ease about the pads vs. edge of rotor. Iprobably have ~200 miles on new pads. I listed everything that I did, and nothing I didn't do, in my post above. I cleaned my guide pins with Brakleen and a rag, they looked great, except for the tiny area where the pin is exposed to the elements, right next to the threads. I figured that wouldn't be a problem.
