Guys,
I am looking to do some work to my exaust a bit at a time. I really don't want to change the sound too much. I was going to just buy two Dynomax mufflers and put a Hiflo res back in where the straigh pipe is now.
What mufflers would you guys recommend for a mellow sound sound inside and out. I really don't want to go to loud, just maybe a bit louder than stock.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

A borla system may be an easier way to get what you're looking for. As far as replacing mufflers in your current system, 3 straight-through mufflers will certainly give you more flow and a little cooler sound than what you've got. Go to carparts.com and look for the bullet brand mufflers. They should have some nice stainless 12" mufflers that will fit in the rear nicely. I have a 16" Bullet brand muffler 2.5" in/out in the middle of my car and just took out the two rear mufflers. Sounds similar to CarDoctor's. Louder, but in no way obnoxious. HTH

I recently completed my custom cat-back consisting of vibrant mufflers and a vibrant resonator w/ custom 2.5" piping.
I am VERY happy w/ the sound, just a little louder, more throaty and absolutely NO rasp.
parts were ~$260 + cost of install (I had a friend do it, so I won't say how much that cost me) I would guess around $200.

The SuperTrapps are tunable glasspaks. The Flowmaster is deeper and mellower. The Dynomax is more high-pitched and almost ricey.

You wouldn't happen to have a clip of your exaust. It sounds like exactly the price and quality I'm looking for, it would be great to hear it though. I have heard nothing but good from the Vibrant mufflers. My guess is that you'll get similar sound if you're planning on using 3 mufflers. I.E. any combo of 3 mufflers/resonators will up flow, deepen tone. 2.5" tubing will also cost you extra. I did mine piece by piece, and I noticed the biggest power gains when I added: my y-pipe (barely louder, more rasp, had no res) and, the 2.5" tubing w/ Bullet muffler (quieter inside...ah) I'm telling you, look at Bullet. I don't know of anyone else using them, but the build quality seemed very nice and the $ was right! Rara, glad to see someone else w/ 2.5" tubing. Did you notice power gains? I'm a student, so I saved for the mod, but not the dyno!

I haven't dyno'ed since I got the exhaust done, and there is a good chance I will have added a y-pipe by the time I dyno. It has been raining here a bunch, so I really don't feel like figuring out a way to get a wav done of my exhaust sound while getting all wet. I actually went w/ the 2.5" for a few reasons, even though I realy do feel it is a bit big for a nearly stock 2.5L engine. First, I do eventually plan on the 3L and I don't want to have to re-do the cat-back if I don't have to. also we ended up doing crush bend pipe (thier mandrel bender wasn't up and running yet when we did my exhaust) and last but not least, the shop that did mine had extra 2.5" there that we could use easily, where we would have had to scrounge for enough 2.25" pipe to do it properly. For the most part, mine is still clamped together, so that we could adjust it until we got the tips aligned etc. I just haven't had a chance to go back over htere and get it finished up, though it looks and sounds great!

Rara,
Well if you get the time, I would really like to hear it. No rush, not really looking to do it within a few days probably in a month or so.
Thanks for the info, you guys have been very helpful.
Thanks, Justin

Well Rara. You're one step a head of me.
Mine's all designed and cut. Just waiting for a chance to get over to my friends house and fit it together and weld it.
I also went with 2.5" single pipe, but am using 2.25" duals. All mandrel bends. The muffler will be clamped on with stainless band clamps (4" wide) That way it's easily accessible and the dual pipes are as well. Also my muffler placement is behind the rear suspension (Ala F-body) and I'm using a SS UltraFlow.
