I put a new TPS in and my car is idling a little high. I hooked up the OBD2 scanner software and it showed the TPS was in the 18% open range at idle. Is that in the correct range? It seemed a little high to me. If anyone can tell me the correct range that would be much appreciated.

1. Are you sure you got the correct TPS ?
*I know on the Focus, there is a different one for auto and MTX trannies.
2. Is it a Ford part ?
3. Did you install it exactly like the old one ?
Meaning, you usually have to install the new one and turn it about 1/8 of a turn to line of the mounting screws. If you didn't install with the correct amount of alignment, the TPS may be installed incorrectly.
Also, did you make sure you connected the TPS wires back on.(I know, it sounds dumb but never over look the obvious.)
4. Do you have an aftermarket TB ?
If everything checks out, you could always reset the ECU and then drive around for about 10 minutes on the street and highway and see if it helps.

A common problem about replacing the TPS is the Ford dealership will give yout the TPS for a non SVT 2.5L. The TPS for the 2.5 duratec and the 2.5 duratec SVT are diffrent. The TPS for the non-svt 2.5 operates opposite of the tps for the SVT. If you use the wrong one, it will idle high and get massive throttle hang. Sounds like you got the wrong one (happened to me). Do a search for TPS if you want a full explanation on how the TPS works.
Just take it back, they screwed up and will exchage it for you, it's about 4 dollars more. STRESS the fact you have a 2.5L H.O. SVT motor and need the tps for this motor, not a normal 2.5 duratec.

1.) I thought it was the correct TPS, but now I am not so sure. 2.)It is a Ford Part. 3.)Connected Correctly 4.)Stock TB.
I am going to go to the dealership today and see if they have one for a SVT.

Did you reset the PCM??? You need to do this every time you change a sensor or do any performance work otherwise the car will run funny until the PCM adjusts on it's own. Resetting is as simple as disconnecting your battery for a few minutes then driving the car few miles after it warms up. If you allow the PCM to self adjust with out resetting it can take several hundred miles before it runs right and you get the full effect of the repairs you made.

I have reset the PCM numerous times. The part number for the TPS I have is F4SZ-9B989-AA. I had the dealership look it up and it should be the right one for a 98 SVT.

I purchased a new set of gaskets for the LIM, UIM, EGR, and TB. If there is any leaks there, hopefully those will be taken care of. The TPS is the correct one according to the part number, so I think that is fine. I will let you all know how it works out after I install the new gaskets.
Thanks

This also happened to me! Non-svt TPS=MAJOR throttle hang!
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.
