I have a '98 contour v6 mtx.. Started to change the spark plugs today and quit before I got the first one out. I did disconnect the ignition coil electrical connector, but neglected to disconnect the spark plug wires from the ignition coil. I also forgot to disconnect the variable intake system actuator electrical connector. I had just popped off the cap for the first plug when I decided I didn't have enough time to finish. I put everything back together, start my car, and it has a very rough idle and struggles not to stall. I dont even think I can drive it to my mechanic. I tried disconnecting my battery but no luck with that.

Would appreciate any ideas or thoughts you might have.

Kevin

Sounds like one of the plug wires isn't seated right either on the plug or on the coil.
You stated you didn't remove from the wires from the coil, but were you changing plugs one by one or did you pull all the wires off the plugs at once?
If you pulled all the wires off the plugs you might have 1 wire one the wrong plug.

excellent point, there.

Firing order, and coilpack order are not the same.. two are reversed from each other.

I would check from splits in the boot you pulled, and check to re-seat the boot fully..

I only pulled one boot off the spark plug, never took plug out, and put the boot right back on.

What do you mean when you say make sure it's seated? Just that the boot is completely over the spark plug? Thanks for helping guys.
