So I just bought a car from out of state and have to get a smog-check on it.
The first place I called is $98 w/ a $20 coupon from SmogTips.com Ouch. I thought they were like $40.
Anybody know of any shops in the East Bay? I guess I'll call a few more and see what's normal.
Thanks! Jason

I am fully experienced in this area!!! I'm still driving around with a window sticker permit. Anyway, $98 seems rather steep. Every place that I have been to has only charged 70 or 80 bucks without any coupons. Look around a bit... Greg

most I've seen were around $70 also..Mainly because of the new units being used.

Exactly. The new units are actually a dyno, testing the vehicle under a "load" at 15 and 25 MPH.

Thats probably a good route to go, provided that you don't need a "test only" place...

i hate this smog crap, i used to have an '87 Taurus when i first moved to CA (from out of state) and my 90K mile car blew cleaner air than the CA models out here!!! good luck finding a cheaper station Jason!

iv seen between 40 and 100 bucks....i paied only 45 for my smog....because of the new dynos/smog machines requiered for our area, some places that don;t do a lot of bussiness had to raise there smog prices to make up for the expense of buying the new machine...but bussier place can keep it low because they do a lot more bussiness.
Keep searching , if your willing i can help you find a place down here in Sna Jose/santa clara, there all over here.

i found a coupon for speedy lube for $49. I imagine that doesn't include the $8 certificate, so I suppose I'll go with that.
Thanks for the help!
