i have heard that chips do a great amount of difference and that they do nothing.i was gunna get the superchip and on their website the hp and torque gains are about 13hp and 16 torque. i would be very happy with that... the thing i was wondering is if i have a intake now and i get exhaust later will it make a difference or will the chip adjust to that. i found this one online.......how does it look http://www.ssd4u.com/streetsmart_024.htm this looks to be the same as the one on the super chips website http://www.superchips.com/html/products/ford/OldFordCars/1100OldFords.htm which has a +13hp and +16trq gain.

im just trying to get things straight......i dont want to spend pointless money.

you haven't even replied in your first thread (where some advice was being given) and it's RIGHT NEXT TO THIS ONE!!!!

I've followed chips for a few years and one thing I've found out is that almost ALL manufacturer gains are inflated.
They do this to sell products.

For a stock Zetec with an intake, exhaust and some minor bolt on's, look for around +5HP/TQ at the wheels.

If you have cams, induction, ported head and such, you can get about +10HP/TQ at the wheels or more. Usually more depending on how aggressive the mods are to the engine.


One thing they can do is give you more power/TQ eariler in the rpms but overall gain is usually a lot less as mentioned. This will give you a little kick off the line.

Just don't expect a hugh gain when you mainly have bolt-on's.

For ATX, you can have your shift points changed to shift at a higher RPM.

You can also get your Speed and Rev limiters increased but make sure you have the proper rated tires to exceeded 105mph.

You can exceed the speed rating. The rating is for extended periods of time. I've done 130 on 112 rated tires. My hood flying up (cf hood w/ no hood pins) was more of a concern than the tires.

And stock limiter is 112.

damn mine are y rated tires but i wont ever be going 188 mph, 140 was fast enough weaving in and out of atlanta highways with 4 buddies along with me in thier cars,,,,whooooo that was fun...but wont ever do it again!

A chip is really only going to show big gains after you have modded you car a bit and need a custom tune.

With basic bolt-ons you are not going to see jack crap.

sounds like i should really wait......i guess that is what im gunna do.
