If it's one thing I can't stand, it's the lack of variable intermittent wipers. I can live without the one-touch down window, but the stock setting is too slow for anything short of a light drizzle. I remember reading somewhere that replacing the lever was simple and cheap ($25?) but I can't find the info on it anymore. How can I switch the levers?

I think you can just grab an intermittent one out of a car that had it and just plug it in. Best place to get one would probably be a junkyard. I know the junkyard that I go to has a few cars with the variable. The rubber trim kind of clips in and then you can just slide it off. Im sure it can't be too hard to do.

I did this swap. I didn't work for me. I have an extra one if you want to try it, PM me.

Got one from the junkyard for like $10. Unscrew the 2 screws on the top of the plastic cover of the steering column. Pull of the harness. Slides right out. Slide the new one in. Plug in the harness. Put the cover back on with the screws. Mine works good.

I tried 2 different wiper stalks from two different cars and model years. Still won't work, it is really irritating. I'm wondering if I should update the wiring too.

Thank you!!! I'm not the only one!

People have been looking at me googly-eyed whenever I specify that my next Contour will have variable intermittent wipers ... haha

Yeah the only things I always wanted that my Contour didn't have were intermittent wipers and fold-down rear seats. I got the wipers anyway!

My Contour has intermittent wipers and one-touch-down window.

Not to rub it in of course...
