They even have a Supercharger available through Jackson Racing that yields over 300 horses!

Who said anything about a supercharger? From what I could tell, stock 99 Maxima vs. a stock 98.5 SVT.. I don't think it's far fetched at all, if you look at the performance numbers, they're pretty darn similar. And MTX would make even more sense, as I'm a better driver than him

Let me step up to the plate as self-proclaimed authority on the SVT vs. Maxima vs. sport bike controversy. (In the garage is a 00 SVT, 00 Maxima SE, and a 01 Hayabusa.... The SVT will beat my wife's SE (girlamatic slushbox), but the SE is a fantastic all-around car. Really love it. Roomy, attention to small details. Only item I am unhappy with is it has a poor turning radius (try doing a u-turn in the street... won't happen). As far as even thinking about a current (within the past 10 years) sport-bike, you are friggin crazy. No way. Hayabusa does 0-60 in 2.2 seconds. 0-100 in six seconds. Tops out (limited) at 185mph. Can a SVT take a Harley or cruiser bike? Good chance of that at their quarter mile times are in the 14s, but even the 600 sportbikes have quarters in the low to mid 11s with the Hayabusa and ZX-12 touching the 9's with a pro rider. Not saying your race didn't happen, but riding a bike will give your seat time in a car a whole new perspective...

I am not calling the story BS. Anything can happen on the street. I have to say this though. When I rode in the Maxima in MI I became a true believer in the performance of the car.

Hey, I don't know, can only tell it like I saw it.. Maybe the bikers saw this "grocery getter" and wanted to toy with me a bit - I knew what I was getting into, and I knew I didn't stand a chance, my guess is the guy took it easy so that he didn't kill his g/f.
As for the Maxima, I agree it's a nice car (though a bit overpriced imho), but don't forget that my SVT is special like SVT 065 G's, and have the dyno plots to prove it.. However, I'd kill for those leather seats :>

I beat a 99-00 maxima and it was an ATX off the line he spun so i knew he was on it and i beat him but NOT BY MUCH and i hit every gear right and i only won by about a half a car we slowed down when i het 3rd gear. Now a MTX is a different story and in my previous post about this race i stated that a MTX would have beat me BUT it ALWAYS COMES DOWN TO THE DRIVER!!!!

Interesting statistic... those numbers are not our friends when we line up beside a BMW however... roughly 50% of them are sold with manual tranmissions.
I've never had a Maxima challenge me, so I'm still in the dark about what they can really do. I've been in an automatic SE, and the guy driving liked it and it seemed quick enough, but I'm not too sure that car could get the power down and hold the corners with factory tires and suspension. Or am I wrong?

Umm, Stock-to-stock with the same driver, the 00 Max 5-spd loses. Sadly, the newer ones (a bit more porky at the scales, and, IMHO, with inflated power numbers) are slower than the 4th gen by all sources I've seen. Sure, after driving both, the Max is a quicker car at 6/10ths effort--the smoothness and tractability of the VQ30DE-K is marvelous, and the car as a whole is more polished than the SVT (of course, bigger and more expensive, too). But when it comes time to wring them both out for all they're worth, it's SVT Contour by a pretty small margin that grows ever larger as the speedometer swings clockwise. With 2 shifts, SVT is even with the 1-shift Maxima to 60...1/2 sec. quicker by 100mph, and 14 seconds quicker to 130mph (47 sec w/3 shifts vs. 33 sec w/4 shifts). Top speeds are about even at 140mph & change. Either modded, and all bets are off. Of course, there's still part of me that wishes I'd gotten the Max instead of the SVT...but those feelings disappear when the windows roll down and the right foot gets twitchy...
