Folks,
I have been working on reproducing a sunroof gear for about a year now and I think I can finally make the numbers work. I can make it on my plastic injection machine using glass filled delrin which should be harder than anything that I have tried before. As some of you know I attempted to make the gear by casting it and injecting the mold with resin. The best I was able to do lasted a week. Using my injection machine with delrin, would make the gear last a lifetime. This is the best way to do this part that I know of. The cost of the molds has always been the problem for this gear. Because of the straight teeth and the angled teeth, the mold base is very costly. I need to be able to get a sense of how many gears I can move at $65/each. Again, because of the costs involved, buying 20 will not get you a discount. This will be the cost per gear.
Finally, the last thing that I need will be to borrow a gear to get the proper size done correctly. I returned the gear that I used to use to make the first casts. When I made that gear, the method didn't take into account for shrinkage. So, I don't have a gear the actual size which is obviously very important.
To the person that lends me the original, I will gladly return the gear plus a new one.
All of my parts are made to last or I will refund your money. End of statement.
Thanks for your feedback. I will check back in to this post to see the response and gauge the need. This is not in any way commiting you to buying one. I just need to see the volume one more time. Once started, the turn around time will be about two months.

Jeff.. I do not use my sunroof, and if I did, I would want a stronger gear either way. I would be happy to send you my gear.. I have NO objections to ANY amount of time you need to take, to make this work..Time is not an issue for me.
PM me, or AIM

Jeff,
Hey it's Rick, the original person you used for the gear. When do you need the gear again and for how long? I can do without my sunroof for a little while as this isn't my daily driver, but I'd like to have it at least for a bit of the summer.
Thanks, Rick

My gears are all fine but my motor is shot. Can you cast one of those out of delrin?

Rick.. If you want yours for summer, I don't use my sunroof at ALL, and therefore wouldn't mind lending it out to Jeff. I haven't used it for probably 3 of the years I own it, simply because I know it would end up breaking, and I was avoiding it (in case I sold the car, etc) I could lend my gear for months or 6 or 8, I could care less.
This way, you can use your sunroof when you get hot..

Mine just gets used when I actually drive it, but that's usually on the track so I don't have the sunroof open then. I'll let Jeff figure out which works best for him.

Mine isn't broken yet but $65 is cheap insurance. I am interested. I'll let the others fight over who donates their gear for a free one in return .
