I didn't know where to post this and here seemed like the best.

I'm installing my MSDS's and I managed to drop one of the nuts into the subframe crossmember. Does anyone have any bright ideas on how I might get it out. I know the rough loacation of it. I don't want to just cut a hole in the crossmember. I don't know if that will mess up the integrity of the metal.

Any input is welcome.

Thanks

you can get a flexable magnetic retrieval tool from the parts store for about $3. Saved my bacon more than once. Actually seen them in dollar stores too, should do for a one time grab.

If you have an access point, a strong magnet all by itself might do fine as well. All you gotta do is drag the magnet along to the access & the nut/bolt should follow right along.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

craftsman makes two tools everyone should have. the telescopic magnet and one of those bendy things with the retractable claw at the end.

in your case, if the nut is indeed in the subframe (is that possible?)i would suggest somehow securing a small magnet to the end of a clothes hanger (cut the hook off and straighten it out). then find a opening for the magnet, and push it towards the lost nut. the nut should stick, allowing you to pull it out.

i lost a nut on my install on the subframe. it took like 45 min to find it so i feel your pain. mine didnt fall inside the subframe though.

Thanks guys, I have a spark plug graber. I tried the magnet but it wasn't working. I even tried my big 400lb one and that didn't grab a hold of it.

Kingpin the crossmember has a hole in the top of it, it's not very big but with my luck the nut landed right in there.

I'll have to get one of those bendable magnets I think.

Compressed air works wonders when blowing crap outta tight spots. if you have an air compressor with a long nozzled blower its worth a shot.
