Hey guys
I suspect I am getting a lil clunking due to bad mounts, not sure if its motor or tranny.
When I accelerate slowly, it clunks when shifting, but not all the time.
It only clunks on the 1-2 shift, havent noticed it on 2-3 or 3-4.
When I accelerate moderately to fast, it shifts smoothly.

So I am thinking its a mount... OD light flashes sometimes at speeds over 65mph and I have read that its indicative of some sort of tranny problem.

This is where I am at and I am a new owner so I dont know much about these cars...

Any help appreciated...

Thanks

A flashing O/D light can mean anything, and when I say that I do mean ANYTHING, my dad's 02 Ranger had the similar problems with the hard shifting into 2nd (ATX) and the O/D light flashing and he took it in to the stealership, (covered under warrenty) they tested it the Valve Body was bad in it. So they fixed it and all is well now. So yeah the 0/D light can mean anything as well as the hard shifting.

Flashing OD indicates an internal transmission problem. Hard shifting is generally associated with high line pressure caused by the PCM putting the tranny in limp home mode after an internal fault has been detected (slippage). OD light also flashes when the ATX fluid overheats, again caused by an internal tranny failure. Driving it this way will cost you more and more. Park it and fix it.

Typical failure is the bypass pass valve causing the TC to slip and overheat. But it is not the only cause of CD4E problems. Have it scanned and tested.

UH OH! I think your trannie is going out. a flashing OD light is always the first symptom of a dying ATX. As for clunking from 1-2... its call the 1st to 2nd bang shift, ford put a crappy shift sensor in there and it has a hard time making a good shift... I would suggest getting the part number and replaceing the shift sensor. Someone else will chime in with the part number... Who knows the new sensor may fix your OD light flashing problem.

Does anyone know the part#? Is the sensor hard to replace? Like I previously stated, I have no experience with these cars. But I am not oblivious to automotive mechanics and I do a lot of work myself.
