I have a 96 Lx duratec and I recently had my check engine light come on. I had it scanned and the trouble code it gave me was that the IMRC is closed shut. the second code read that the oxygen sensor had a slow response. That is understood no problem. But as for the IMRC box do I need to buy a new box? maybe used? has anyone encountered this? Also is there somewhere I could buy it for cheap? Here Ford wants 300.00 cdn.

you need a whole new IMRC box. Mine broke after it accidently fell off a table and landed on a hard concrete surface. I payed about $86 new with my friends ford discount. You may want to contact bill jenkins and see what he can do for you.

Before doing that check the linkage from the IMRC cable to the LIM. Most likely the little plastic gromet has fallen out and the linkage isn't functioning.

I got the same codes on my 98 duratec today (130,000km)

Imrc stuck closed and oxygen sensor slow response..

I went and changed the 02 sensor..(Bank1)
Now the CEL is off.

But I still have to fix or replace my Imrc. I will check the linkage to the LIM to see if its the grommets but im pretty sure its the computer chip in the Imrc which is fried.
The secondaries open on the few first revs and then stays closed after a few runs over 4000 rpm.

I also have to fix the moosing which is getting worse and worse..(Does cleaning the IAC fix this?)

And to top it off my paint on my fenders is chiping away

After fixin all this i will clean my UIM and LIM..

So wish me luck!

P.S. If you have any how-to's, pictures,or any advice, please send PM or reply

I still believe, even if it has been disproven several times, that putting a heatsink on the imrc will reduce failure from heat. Does this help this thread? Maybe not, but atleast it gives me something to do

WOW! very clever

I like the concept but most of the heat(i think)comes from under the imrc box. It would have to be surrounded by that stuff

I had read the Moosing faq but i was wondering if i could get away with just cleaning it..

Anyone know how expensive it is to simply replace the IAC valve +gasket +assembly kit?
