Checking out ford of mexico it amazes me that they produce the car there, seeing as how the markets of Mexico and US should be so close. BTW Pricing on it is $28,875.31 USD and its a left side driver

Anyone know about how to import one from mexico?

Don't even bother thinking about it, it would be nearly impossible because Ford has no equivalent USDM vehicle, so the Mondeo would have to be crash tested, DOT and EPA certified and by the time you got that all done, you've spent probably 3 or 4 times the cost of one car.

This is the first year for the ST220 in Mexico, previously, the only Mondeos sold there were the basic bread and butter sedans.

FWIW, they also sell the Ka, Ikon, Fiesta and Courier in Mexico.

I was talking to my brother, and according to him about this and all you need are 4 cars to crash. So if someone has about 120,000 to drop and smash I'll gladly drive it

And what about the X-Type isn't that the same platform?

I'm just throwing this around in theory so no flames please.

Crash tests aren't the only thing, you also have to get DOT approved headlamps, sidemarkers and taillamps, none of which exist for the Mondeo, a MPH speedometer, which you'd have to get from the UK, and the biggie, EPA OBD-2 certification with OBD-2 diagnostics, something ELSE that doesn't exist.

The X-type would be too different to qualify. Ford will never bother to ever re-certify the Mondeo, the market simply does not exist for this car.

All you would have to do is purchase the car and keep it in Mexico for 2yrs. Once you are able to show you have owned the vehicle within North America for 2yrs or more you can drive it over the border on a long term vehicle visa.

that's f**kin interesting man. So title transfers wouldn't work I take it.

If I have to do all this crap for a mondeo wtf would be needed for a really rare car?

Guy on here brought a mondeo to Florida with him from England. Importing cars is definitely doable.

You can't keep it indefinitely though, once the temporary permit expires, you either have to ship the car to a foreign country at your expense or have the car destroyed. You simply cannot keep a non-conforming car in the US without having it legalized, the feds won't allow it.

If that is true,,, what is the time period, like 50 years or something probably or you can renew it. There are plenty of imported cars that I know are never leaving this country.

It's usually a year but I think they extend it for certain individuals, like those German AF people at Holloman AFB. Just because they're not leaving this country doesnt mean they're here legally.
