I recently bought an '98 SVT contour that had been stolen then repossessed by Johnny. It was selling for dirt cheap so I went ahead and bought it at an autoauction. Handles real well, however the power is a bit lacking. I was thinking I could take the supercharger out of a thunderbird SC and drop in my SVT, but I'm sure that won't work because the engines aren't the same. My next question is where do I find supercharging or turbocharging kits for my 40,000 mile SVT 'tour. huh? What are the downsides I can expect from doing such a thing other than the obvious? What kind of extra horse power can I expect? What will my 0-60 time be? Will my fuel efficiency go to hell?
In any case, the contour has me sold. My neighbor has a beautiful 2000 M5 that I pulled up next to last friday night. I knew this was going to be the most rediculously unfair race ever. I beat him off the line at 5500 rpm with three people in cab! I was laughing so hard! "HAHA, look at you! Tell your dad too...", before I could hit second gear all I heard was a loud roar and it was all over. Sometimes I forget that it's just a contour, but I would like him to regret every $87,000 he spent on that dirty crout car with this supercharger or turbocharger. Help me out!

Thanks,

Charles

Vortech makes a supercharger...it costs like $3500+ (something like that, can't remember) but there is a group buy going on right now from (check group buy forum) to get it for around $2500.

With no other mods it'll bump you up to around 300hp. You might want to look into a stonger diff unit and clutch with that type of power though.

I don't think anyones posted 0-60 numbers on a supercharged contour but i'd guess somewhere around mid-5's...? Mistergrym got a g-tech 1/4 mile time of 13.2...pretty darn quick! Probably closer to 13.7 at a strip...but that's plenty quick too!

You should be able to hang with the M5 in the 1/4 after you install a blower...or at least be really close. BTW, isn't the M5 a NA engine? I think it is...

Its gonna take more then the S/C to beat a bone stock M5... unfortunatly I am speaking from experience.

YOU can get the Vortech kit from approx $3,500 and unless you turn wrenches well and don't mind screaming obsceneties for many days straight you are going to spend another $1,500-$2000 to have a note worthy shop install the kit. (and I just would like to point out that they are earning every penny of that $1,500-$2,000)

Here is a pretty bad video of me from 0-80MPH with massive wheel spin through 1st, 2nd, & into 3rd
http://www.laneautomotive.com/mark0-80MPH.mpg

you will see even with the wheels spin I get from 0-60 in under 6 seconds...

MiStEGRYM,

was the race with the M5 even close? i looked up several sites and it looks like the M5 does the 1/4 in about 13.4 and 0-60 in about 4.9...I'm thinking you can do the 1/4 in about 13.5-13.7 (since you 13.2 on the gtech)...but i doubt you can get enough traction to do sub-five 0-60's...

any thoughts?

Hi thre charles,
Well there 2 ways that you could go in to somewhat giving the M5 more of a run then just 1st gear(maybe to 3rd)
1st is the Vortex supercharger which puts out 250hp @the wheels or get a 10 psi pully and bump it up to 295 @the wheels!!! Price MSRP $3500 plus 10+ hour to install
2nd is to do the 3.0 conversion, Sho-SHop is the only one selling the block prep and ready to drop in , startting at $1500. but adding some more mods will jump it up,(for the price of the supercharger, I'm sure u could fine tune it) David Z ran a 14.1 in the 1/4 mile. and is working to fne tune it to the high 13.
These are the real only 2 ways (besides the all NOS) to really get the power. Oh ya the tranny won't beable to handle all the power so you going to nedd to install a Quafi limited slip.
Just my 2 cents smile

I have never dragged one, but on the highway... unfortunatly I just don't have enough torque to back up my HP.

Judge... I don't think I need any revenge. laugh

As for Chow's statement about smaller pulleys and 10psi... Vortech claims less then 9psi, yet my boost gauge clearly reads 10psi at max boost before the bypass starts releasing pressure. Also currently the prop shaft can't support a smaller pulley... atleast according to the engineers at Vortech.
Plus by upping the boost pressure you are just going to destroy your bottom end if you try using stock components
