ok heres the situation...ive been doing some research before asking...last night i installed my System which is 2 12" Sony Xplods, 1200 watt sony xplod amp, with an 8 gauge cable... but it doesnt seem to be hitting that hard for some reason?!?! i havent tweaked the settings on the amp yet, cuz it was really late last night..would that fix my problem?? is the gauge not big enough?? and also...when my system is on, it is making all my lights dim, almost like its pulsing to the music... If i got an Optima battery would that make the dimming go away? or maybe put out more sound? if so, should i get red or yellow top?? also what about if i got a cap? would the cap make things better?? please help me! im in need of help with only 3 hours of sleep last night.. THANX

What kind of box? built to mfg specs? 8 ga would be borderline. battery will likely not help. red or yellow are both good, do you plan on playing the stereo a lot with the car off? if yes, then yellow. if not, then red. no caps, they won't help.

Could be the ga of wire, but the first thing i would do is run up to autozone and get the alternator tested to see if it's warn enough to justify a new one. I brought my ranger in recently, only to find out it was creating 7 amps max. lol

Also, make sure your subs are wired correctly. If there is almost no bass, i would suspect they are wired out of phase.

ok i will get my alternator tested... now when u say they could be wired out of phase, do u mean maybe their not plugged in good enough or somethings loose?? would it matter if i have my speaker wire in my amp on the left sub but it is really goin to the right, and on amp its goin to right but its goin to my left sub? and also, could it be my speaker wire size?? cuz im usually just the standard small speaker wire.

out of phase means you have the positive going to the negative terminal on one speaker. to test, switch the positive and negative wires on the back of the enclosure on only one of the two subs.

WIth that much power, you will want to use 4 gauge power wire, and a larger speaker wire also. You will want to set the gains on the amp, and you may also check the bass boost, if the amp has one. A word of warning, don't turn the bass boost all the way up, as Sony's have a tendancy to overheat when running subs. Also, make sure all the screws that hold in the sub are tight, a loose one will ruin bass response.
