Does anyone know of any way possible to extact OBDII codes? I have extracted codes on many makes of cars all these year, now the OBDII comes along and I can not seem to find a way to extract from them. I downlaoded some software for doing such with a PC or laptop, but have not got around to affording a cable.

Thanks;
Dale

Get around to affording a cable, buy a cheap scanner, or have autozone do it for free.

Kremit is right. Scanners aren't ridiculous...about $60-$100 for low-end models. They're handy to have around, but be warned ALL your friends that have OBD-II vehicles will be asking to use it when they get a CEL

I don't know much about the software packages available, but some of them are pretty nifty. When Stolon visited he had some software on a laptop and we could monitor just about EVERYTHING while driving the car. We made him a CAI and did pre- and post-CAI intake air temps and found that it really did work.

In Canada Canadian Tire sells a scanner made by Innova for OBDII cars. Model 3100. I am sure a parts store in the U.S. carries them as well.

AMEN!

If you have a laptop, save up and get the obd-2.com cable and software. It's amazing how much stuff that you can see with it.

I bought the tricom unit from them and I can view all of the OBD-2 info made on ANY vehicle made after 1995. It works on my Contour, my Dad's Nissan Sentra, and my Mom's Toyota Camry.

Unlike ALDL, you can't just make a cable that plugs into the computer. You must have an interface that talks to the computer in its language. I think Ford is PWM, a variant of i2c. (If none of this made sense, don't worry, I'm a geek.)
