Okay guys, I really need help here.
A few months ago I had my engine replaced (99 Zetec Vin 3), the new/used engine had 55K on it. Got it back from the shop, and the tranny was acting funny, but that was fixed with a Qt. and a half of fluid.
A week after I get the car back, it started making a loud ticking noise, and the shop said it was the flywheel, which really pissed me off because they should have caught that while changing the motor. Anyway, I took it to a trany shop, and they said it was not the flywheel, and instead said it was my idler pulley. I read on here that the idler and tensioner pulleys can cause som enoises, so I got them both, and after a couple of hours, replaced them both... but noise is still there. So I crawled under the car, and I can swear the noise is coming from the starter, but what kind of noise could the starter make?
The noise is there mostly at idle, and winds up with the engine, but some times goes away at much higher RPM's.
Any idea what this could be? Could the starter solenoide be ticking? Does it need to be shimmed? Am I completely wrong about the starter?
