I'm not really sure what it is exactly. When I plug the harrd drive into the computer directly it's fine, but when I plug the home unit into the network directly Simplecenter doestn't see it. The wireless problem I think is more attributed to the way I have my network set up. My dell laptop doesn't like to connect all the time so I have it set up as a shared key. It didn't like WEP as much so I've been hesitant to change everything around. It doesn't really bother me to bring the drive in with me every so often to change out music.
As for Twonky, I had read about it on other forums discussing this unit and others like it (mainly home stereo units) and decided to try it out. You can read about it here. I have actually gotten it to work with my home unit where as I still haven't with simplecenter. I still use simplecenter though with the car unit since it works just fine and I don't know if Twonky will work with the harddrive.

Man, I haven't had those problems. I configured the wi-fi and it synch's from my driveway. The home unit has been the most easy and flawless to use so far. I plugged it into my home ethernet network, it saw the simplecenter server (and vice versa), works great.
After goign on a roadtrip this weekend i did find I need to adjust how I mounted the hard drive. At highway speeds vibration seems to be just right that it was causing the thing to skip, or glitch while playing music. If I slowed down to slower speeds, it played perfectly. I mounted right to the rigid underside of the back window and I'm going to try some rubber around the screws I used or something to insulate the unit from the vibration.
But man, despite that, I friggin love this thing. So badass.

did you notice in the manual that is says mounting it vertically (with the HD opening facing up) is the best way to prevent vibrations?

I was so close to cutting up the center console so I could mount it facing up to have easy access to the harddrive, but decided against it once I got it all out and realized all the cutting necessary and that it still may not fit with the depth of the unit. I don't see how vibrations could effect it that much seeing as it's a harddrive. If it's vibrating enough to make it skip then I would think that there it could easily damage the drive since that would cause the heads to bounce against the platters.
As for the wireless networking, the reason is all behind the fact that I don't want to change from wpa to wep security. The home unit can't see simplecenter and vise versa even when plugged into the network directly. Honestly, I pretty much gave up on it for a while and figure I'll go back to it later on.

Yes, it does say in the manual to mount it vertically for best results, but I coudlnt' find a good place to do that, unless I did so on the side of the trunk maybe? Anyway, I'm a stubborn mofo so I'm going to try some foam insulators to reduce vibrations. WIth my tighter suspension and motor mounts, my car's a very rough mofo sometimes.

20gig though??? thats all? why not make it have a 120gig and then you wouldnt have to mess with the wireless junk which im sure makes it much more expensive.

1) You can put a larger harddrive in it, many have done it. For me, my music collection is about 12GB, so 20 is plenty (and I have about 2500 tracks)
2) The wireless is used to syncronize the drive, not to stream the music. Its only used for a few minutes to transfer new files found on your PC to the hard drive in your car. The music is played in the car FROM the hard drive.

Hmmmm...not a bad price. Too bad I paid $400 for my Neo Mp3 player with 20 gigs. Well, at least I can control mine from the head unit and not have to use a wired remote.
