I am preparinf to build a new box for my Contour. I built my old box out of 3/4 MDF, but was possibly thinking of using 5/4 MDF this time. Is there any advantage to this and if so, is it worth the extra money and hassle?

IIRC, 3/4 MDF is pretty much the standard when it comes to car audio sub boxes. Not really sure if there would be a gain using MDF that is 1/2" thicker.

what kinda subs you have?

kinda plays a factor in it.. for the most part anything over 3/4 is overkill

use 3/4" and just double up the side of the box the sub sits in. This way your woofer is recessed into the box 3/4" and the wall the sub is on will be stiffer. Some moderate bracing never hurts either.

I would use more bracing (which takes up airspace) over thicker wood. If you are not going super extreme SPL, there would be little gain if any (what gain there would be would not be audible)
