Hi, first post to this group, from what I've seen it's a much better place then the zx2.com site.

I've got a zx2 and as the header says I'm looking to do a duratech swap. I spent a few hrs last week with a few Ford mechanics at my local delership, they went through a battery of measurements and found that yes all the key points are pretty much identical to each other under the bonnet. So yes it can be done on my car. My question is to those who have or who have been looking to do an engine swap, I've got a brand new,( boxed from ford), SVT engine on stand by and that's it so far, I was planning to call duttwiler(sp) to find out what he did but in reading the fourm I find out he didn't do the install ( who did ? )

a preemtive thanks to all

I don't think anyone attempted such a change. But if you do, why not do the 3.0L mod also?

To make that 2.5L fit, they had to do extensive modification to the firewall and front subframe. Sorry, but its just not a simple drop in.

That'd be some serious work. Just find an early 90's Miata (just make sure the body's in good shape) and drop it in there. Engine should fit much, much easier. Then you'd just need to do some custom engine mounts, exhaust plumbing, tranny adaptor plate, and some wiring.

actually it's not allot of work the front end of the Z and the contour are almost identical, the idea was first thrown to me by Ford tech's who spent some time doing the measurments. as for the 3.0.. will the 5sp bolt up to the 3.0? and if so what aftermarket is usaeable? from experience with the 2.0 it's not very fun making your own header, or ordering cosworth parts in from the UK.
i'm not expecting a simple 'b16a' drop in, far from it I love the idea of a challenge, but I am looking for someone who's done the grunt work on the switch over, I am @ 60% sure my TYPE BC UK spec tranny will bolt up as well.. ( since a MTX-75 will bolt up with a hybird flywheel).
anyway thanks for the replies so far.
