Another thing I just thought of... wonder how they never picked that up on room inspections?

I've got some of that in the Fridge right now actually. Just keep forgetting to carry it out with the garbage and sure as hell won't put it in the garbage.
Oh, and if you haven't figured it out yet, don't leave that out on the counter like that for long. As it warms it will build up pressure. It won't take long for that lid to pop off. And then you'll never get the scent out of the room.
Not that I know anything about expired milk or anything.

My roommate last year had a refrigerator by his desk - two feet across from my bed (small room in seven-person apartment). For a good two months whenever he opened it for a few seconds this awful smell would come wafting over to my side and linger there. (Since my 'bed' was just a mattress on the floor with my table-sized desk above, there was no way for the smell to 'rise') After weeks of telling him he's got to clean that thing out, I opened it up one day and showed him the milk that had been sitting there since before Christmas. Turns out he didn't know milk expires.

I left pizza bites in my freezer before a 6 week break. I unplugged the refidgerator right before I left. When I got back, it smelled like sewage, poop, sewer, and feet, all combined into one. And it was a black goo, that was the consistency of syrup. I never got the smell out, but it was a rented fridge, so it didn't matter. Lesson: check your fridge before you leave on breaks!
