have a slightly different question
I check this shop out and I am going to get 5 windows tinted for $160 w/ lifetime warrenty on the tint, will take 3 to 4 hours and I will be able to open the windows the same day
so payment is in cash or check, payable when the car is dropped off. question is is it a good idea to give the guys a tip when I pay for the job or maybe one after?
I mean I wouldn't think about it because I am paying fo rthe service and all but I have in the back of my mind that is might be a good idea. I mean I think I am going to go with 35% but I could get 20% and they would do it even though it is illegal in CT to have anything below 35%
so what would you do?
edit: I ask because I never take my car to anyone for anything normally and don't know how this works for something like this

I wouldn't, personally, recommend paying BEFOREHAND, however if you are comfortable in that action, that is on you.
I haven't seen many tips to the BUSINESS, as a whole.. I have, however, seen a small tip to the INSTALLER (for a job well done).
Check out your car after you get it done.. Look at the very edges of each glass (rear glass, around defroster, or third brake, etc) look for any tearing, or pinholes of light. bubbles are okay.. they will go away.
<---installed tint to my own car
<---have payed for tint
<---used to install tint in a shop.
A tip of $20.00 would be MORE than enough, if you did decide to tip the installer.
PS. GO FOR THE 20%.. you won't notice that much of a difference on the OUTSIDE, with the color of your interior, but the light difference on the inside will be WORLDS worth it.

I would pay afterwards...any place that does work on my car I always pay afterwards. If need be, I put down a small deposit at some places. But, paying afterwards, pretty much gives me the satisfaction of them hopefully doing a good job. I cant wait to get 20% all around.
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.

yeah I don't know why I was thinking like that, I would rather tip after if i do and pay after also
I suppose I had the question because when I made the appointment I was told the total was payable when the car was dropped off ...

Hey Ray, just go cram as much info into this thread as possible for search reasons, I would like your suggestion on tint. I've got both T-Red & lt Blue Tours that need tint. I'm in Florida, so what do you suggest for tint material & % for down here in the sun belt. The stuff has GOT to be good at reflecting heat from the sun and must also be legal.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Never pay before hand....
Heck, I just had a tint job done and they did it, scratched the CRAP out of it while installing it, when I brought it to their attention, the guy was like, it will go away.
Well, three days later, it never went away. Took it back, and he treated me like trash. Don't pay in advance, otherwise, no go on the getting a good tint job...
And what kind of tint are they using that you can open the windows the same day? I've never seen tint like that...You may check into that a little more.
