Cant remember, but I recall someone gave some instructions on replacing the tranny fluid by undoing one of the lines ect...so as to replace all the fluid including that inside the torque converter. I want to be sure, that all the fluid is replaced...not just what sits in the pan. And what fluid is the best choice. Thanks

What mileage do you have on that tranny?

At higher miles it would NOT be adviseable to do a complete flush. This would only cause your tranny to shift worse, and grind possibly more (if it grinds at all, yet)

If you are pushing over 65-70 thousand miles, I would suggest doing to drain plug method, and refilling with approx. 2Qts of fluid.. Do this once every two weeks until you get clean fluid out.

I don't agree. I have flushed many high milage transmissions for the forst time with no ill effects.

Try searching for "hose in a bucket". It has been posted several times.

You can get step by step instructions on the Amsoil website. www.amsoil.com, go to FAQ's about #10 or #11 gives the instructions. No idea whether the practice is wise or not(I'm a newbie), but I doubt Amsoil would encourage the practice if it was detrimental to the transmission.

Jim:

While you and I are (for all intents and purposes) always in agreement (while in troubleshooting, and helping others..) I would still stake my claim on my previously mentioned method.

I cannot argue with you that you haven't done it with no ill effects, however all I can do is state what I have read in faq's and how-to's and numerous posts on this very topic (all within CEG) If you have been able to do so with no problems, then that would be another item for me to consider when recommending what to do to others, but as it stands there are just too many contradictory statements within CEG to go with what you have had great success in doing.

Looking forward to agreeing, again, soon..

If you take it to Jiffy-Goose keep an eye on them. They have been known not to turn the new fluid pump on when the tranny pan is empty. This runs the ATX pump dry and it will burn up from the lack of lubrication! I took one of our company trucks, an F550, in for a flush and they almost did that to me. I Read some other horror stories on the web about this. For my car I use the plastic hose in the 5 gallon bucket method and a large funnel in the filler. Works all the time.
