ok heres the deal. Thursday morning my key would not work and the pats light was blinking really fast. Kept going out and trying it to see if it would go away. Then last night went to get the cd's out of my car and I tried the key, it worked. Shut off the car, tried the key again and the pats light started blinking fast again like it was the wrong key and would not start. My car did this back in september and then the problem went away and didn't happen again until now. Anyone know what the hell is going on with this?

Well, I guess you'd have to narrow things down:
I assume your battery is in great shape and has a full charge, and I assume you can hear your fuel pump go 'whir' when you turn the key to 'on' before starting.
If this is the case, then logic points to the computer. I am not saying it is bad necessarily, but something to do with it is wacko. Perhaps you have a loose connection somewhere, like at the main wiring harness entry point to the computer or at the AFM or Air Temp Sensor or throttle body sensor.
Maybe this will be a good start?
Let me know.

Hey,
I just thought of another thing:
These Contours are equipped with some sort of sensor in the key which works with the anti-theft system to prevent thefts from using a non-original key. Your system may not be correctly recognizing the key. If you have a spare, try using it to see if that makes a difference than your normal key. It may be a problem with the key or the car. You'll have to figure that out.
Your Ford Dealership can provide with a new programmed key if need be.

Look at your battery.. even if you KNOW it is good, this makes the THIRD person to have pats problems, and then nothing wrong. Jump the car with a running car, and I bet it starts right away. Just do it, even if only to pacify me..
If this is NOT the problem, let me know.

Prob just a chip issue,(very common with aftermarket keys) call me or send a PM...Your battery should have nothing to do with it.

What part of his post stated, or made you think, that he had aftermarket keys? Ray
