Hi Everyone!

I need some real help.. I would like to become a fellow SVT,er but I am having a lot of problems finding the right one. I work at a Ford dealer in Parts so I have a pretty good idea what to look for and where to look to see if a car has been wacked. Many of the contours I have seen have been Hit in the past or run down by the owner. I found one tonight with 120km 1998 that I am interested in. Some Concerns I have about it are a Buzz noise I could hear coming from the back while I was sitting in the car at idle really started to bug me after awhile.. kind of like some on was using and electric shaver in the back seat are they know for that with stock exhaust.. not sure if that is common but it is the first time on a test drive of one that I did hear it.. as well the right and left side of the rear bumper cover were pushed in like a half moon.. no bumper sag like in the FAQ sort of looked like this )......( and I did notice some shake in the engine.. not normal shake but abit more ruff.. but not to bad.. I could feel it in the steering at idle... but over all the car LOOKS and seems to run MINT! I want it.. just not sure if I want to pull the trigger on it. Please help me with my questions.. I would love to pick up an SVT and will but would like it to be the right one. Thank you for taking time to read this and help me out.. please reply asap as I do not want to hold out too long on the contour SVT. Take care

Welcome to CEG... you will (should) love the SVT. I know mine is my ideal car.

Fuel pump. Mine does the same thing, when it's hot out, it will make a weird buzz, after about 15 mins will stop making noise.

It might need a tune up with the correct plugs/wires (Motorcraft parts best I hear)...

How much are you paying? Do you mean 120,000 miles, or 120,000 kilometers?

The car has 120,000 kilometers and thats true it could be the pump but the car was running for about 30 mins and was cool outside.. Plus that or the ALT might be getting weak.. it wants to crank about 5 times before it will turn over.. that is another thing I thought was strange He had a brand new Motorcraft battery in the car.. He said he did a tune up but you never know...

any thoughts on the Bumper.. and I do love the SVT Contours... Ever since my 95 SE many years ago

The asking price is $10.000 Canadian as is

I'll bet it is the fuel pump, sounds like it's not supplying enough gas to the engine. I had a fuel pump go out on my old 89 Grand Prix and it did this same stuff. Would also stall out of the blue with no restart, while it was running it ran like crap. Maybe all that is wrong is a bad fuel pump...

I dunno about the bumper, but maybe a heat gun or something might take those out, unless you can get from behind and push em.

About $8,000USD; about $500USD above book value here. Found a link off a GM site to the Canadian Black Book, which I'm assuming is your equivalent to the NADA Black Book here...

I assumed you had a sunroof, too:

yes this is fully Loaded with moonroof... if the Fuel pump is the problem that is not a big deal.. I can get one at cost and have a tech put it in for me.. It is the bumpers that gets me.. very strange becsue on the left and right side the sink in past the QTR panel but the very back it is perfect ... The car is spotless inside I can not find over spray any place on the car as well the oil spay is even on the car and I can see it has been on for a long time. one other thing.. looks like the guy used a glue gun around the headlamps to seal them... I am pretty sure it would not come from the factory like that..Maybe he had a problem with condensation .... Thanks for the Black book listing on the car...

I just really wanna know whats up with the bumper.. a thought I ahve is maybe the past owner had the sag in the back fixed and caused the sides to sink in??? lol

wha are your thoughts on this car and what I have found wrong with it... The person that owns it now has only had it for 4 months.. he works in a shop a the car dealer it was traded in at.. the guy had it on the road for a few months then took it off becasue he tells me there is no insurance on the car now.. that is wife does not like to drive stick. What I am not sure is if he just trying to flip it.. and thats fine or did he have a problem with it and wants to unloaded it... looking for the right car drives me
I am sooo damn picky lol

Ahh... I was thinking there was damage on the bumper cover and it got pushed in (like a dimple on the corners)...

Mine does the same thing, doesn't quite line up on the corners on both sides.

Yes just like that... no it was not hit.. looks abit like this LH side ).......( RH side and the tip of the bumper at the back of the wheel well kind of points out abit... If yours does the same I feel better knowing it is a flaw in the cover. Kind of sucks tho lol

Well I think I will take alook at it again sunday.. sounds like the problems are not as bad as I thought. Anything I should listen for from the engine.. That is a known problem for these cars.. like I said it does run abit ruff.. are they known for that.. and not a really smooth running engine at idle.

Thanks for are you help!!!! You have been a great help!

Mine runs smooth at idle unless it goes into a mood where it likes to idle at 500rpm, then it's rough (blip the pedal and it goes back to normal). Normally mine idles at just under 1000rpm. It's also a very smooth motor, it's not all rough or raspy at high rpms.

No prob.

Thanks for all your Great Help Guys!!!!!!!!

I went back to see the car today.. gave it another look over and left the deposit for the Contour

The car is soooo Mint inside and out.. only two owners. The inside looks like it just came out of the showroom. it was an older gent that had it since new.. even the radio buttons are stiff.. I do not think he even changed the station lol

I pick up the car Friday and look forward to being a Contributing member To this community of fellow Contour Enthusiasts!

Again Thank you very much for anwsering my questions!
