First off, I did a search and found a couple of things, but didn't fully get my questioned answered. I'm trying to route my power wire from my battery through the firewall on my SVT. There is a grommet on the driver's side just below the wiper cowl. I ran my wire through this grommet, but can't find in on the inside of the car. It seems like the insulation on the inside of the firewall is preventing it from coming though and from me seeing it. Is this where most of you guys run your power wire or do most of you drill a new hole? If you drill a new hole, where do you drill it? I'd like to avoid drilling a new hole, but if I have to, I have to. For those of you that have utilized this grommet, did you have the same problem I'm having? Thanks in advance for your help.

Did you have a hard time finding the wire on the inside or was it obvious? I've pushed about two feet through and can't find where it's coming through.

Thats where I ran mine,

I had to push a large screw driver thru the insulation to see where it was pushing through. Then just cut the excess insulation out.

Good idea! I'll try that. Thanks!

yeah, that was the biggest PITA run-wire-through-firewall job i have ever done! it took me about an hour or so by myself and then when my friend helped it still took about another 45 minutes. when you put the wire through the firewall, into the car, it tends to just bundle up, making you think youve made progress.
i dont really remember exactly how we did it. i think my emotions are blocking that negative experience out
use a wire coathanger if youve got one. itll probably take two people since one will have to fish while the other one looks for it. if/once you get the hanger through, you can electrical tape the wire to it and then just pull it through.

good luck and dont give up. it is there its just a PITA!

question: I ran mine through the gromet on the engine side of the fire wall but when you get it into the cowl, there is no gromet to go from the cowl into the bay of the car. There was a black patch (seemed to be made of rubber) i poked a screwdriver through that and poked through the insulation and had to tear it a little to get the wire through. But now if you shine a light down in the cowl you can see that where the power wire is going through the insulation it is definatly not sealed (there is gaps around the wire where insulation can be seen etc.) Im wondering if this could be a potential problem.

What did you guys use to seal up this hole? I was thinking about culking or a gromet but unfortunatly the hole isnt a circle, its more like a tear so i dont think putting a gromet in there will work.

The black patch is the thing you are going to "poke thourgh". Use your finger and poke your finger through it. Then use a metal coat hanger and put it all the way throgh. Then, just stick your wire into the hole and jeep pushing it through. Then, look under the dahs above the clutch pedal.. kind far up there, you'll see and pull it. I don't see qhat was so hard. I ran my 8guage all the way from front to back in 20 minutes. Even sealed up the hole nicely and put the cowl and wipers back on.

As for sealing, just use a liquidy all weather sealant in a tube, gob all over the wire and around the hole and use a blow dryer t quickly set it up. WOrks just fine. I've washed my car proably 20 times since my install using high pressure and no probelms. Make sure you use the small circle gromet that is "unused" to go into the cowl area. Just cut a small little slit in ita nd push the wir ethrough that.
