My temperature gage is not moving. It is dead to the far right. It does not even move with the starting of the engine. The car does not seem to be overheating and coolant levels are fine. Any suggestions?

Sounds like the temp sending unit is not working.

Would you have any input on Where the temp. sending unit is? How to test it? What to look for? etc. Again any info would be greatly appreciated.

Glad to hear you got it fixed.. dam.. looking at that picture it looked really old and beatup.

Having just fixed my temp guage about 2 hours ago on my wifes Zetec I can say it was a pain, but nothing too bad.

I also had issues at Advance Auto Parts not having the right parts listed. My 98 parts was listed in the 97's and was nothing like the new parts.

I don't know if your engine is anything like mine, but once that sendor is out get ready to plug it up with the new sendor or else watch all of your cooling fluid drain out fast! At least I didn't do this in my own yard, because the pets are stupid and will drink the bad water.

It was only a 12$ part.

I performed a search before I posted the thread and nothing came up to address the problem. However my spelling skills are lacking. From what I gather about the sending unit is that if there is a break or fault in the wiring the gage will peg out at the left hand side (cold). If the unit is bad or dirty it will peg out on the right hand side (hot). I will try to disconect the wire tonight to see if that has any effect on the gage. And then I will replace it just in case. If I can figure this out it might be good info for the website. Thank you for the link to the other thread.

Not in my case. I have the Hanyes book that told me to check the white/red wire from the sendor and short to ground and see if the temp goes to hot and replace it.

Well, nothing happend to my car as the guage would just sit there at cold the whole time. The book sad to check the wires and other things like that and I did with no luck. It didn't matter if it was plugged in or not, I got the same cold reponse. I thought the guage was dead.

However, after putting in the new part the needle went straight up to the center as the car warmed up. I guess there is just no sure way to say if these sending units are going bad when stuck at cold or hot.

It never hurts to replace old car parts that would sooner or later fail. This can be a pain to replace without the right tools. Use a deep socket and small ratchet.

Replacing the Temp. Sending unit fixed the problem. But I did have trouble finding the right part. My 98'CSVT has the stud type unit insead of the female unit. Once I was able to get the right part, $16.50, the rest was a snap. Thank you to all that helped.
