Does anyone here run a low temp thermostat? If so what degree? Mustangs use these quite often and I use one on my vette (came with the chip) but i never see mention of it on these pages....What's up with that?

Our cars are so computer controlled that a low temp thermostat would probably create problems and have absolutely no performance gains. It would constantly change the air/fuel mixture trying to change for the colder temperature. Try some Redline Watter Wetter or 40 Below if you want to make it run a little cooler safely. These are both additives for your coolant that let it dissapate heat better.

Exactly what FLuiDSVT said.

Computer stays in closed loop mode until it reaches proper operating temperature.

On the water wetter. You won't see any real difference unless you run atleast 60% water and these engines (V6) run fairly cool to begin with. It's more beneficial to a forced induction car to help reduce temps while under boost.

I run a low temp. stat. Low temp stat do not "makes" power but it keeps power from being loss due to heat soak. This topic was posted before.

IT DOES NOT keep power from being lost! The engine will reach proper operating temperature regardless of thermostat installed. (barring cold weather - in cold weather a low thermostat will actually hurt the car a lot!) It will just take longer and stay in limp mode (closed loop) longer. Both of which are BAD things...

Not only that, but the highest period of engine wear is from inital startup until the engine reaches proper operating temperature... (This is why it's recommended to let the car idle for a few minutes before driving off) So you are extending this time of very high engine wear! Not a good idea.

According to the manuals the thermostat opens around 185 degrees (+/- 3 degrees) for the V6. 192 (+/- 3 degrees) for the I-4.
