Yet another missed opportunities to race an M3. Tonite on my way home from Xmas shopping I pull up behind a very aggressive looking BMW coupe. There are no badges except for an M3 on the Licence plate frame. This had to be one of the best looking M3's I have ever seen. So anyways, the light turns green I ride his butt thru the turn and blow past him. What does he do? Continues driving ridiculously slow. What is up with these M3 drivers? Must just be a status symbol not a true car enthusiast. Oh well I'll wait til another encounter and see what happens.

if i raced every moron who wanted to play with me i would have been in jail by now. Also it seems like idots want to race in city trafic when i have my wife and son with me. My windows are not tinted so you would think they would leave you alone when you have family with you., but i guess the mentality show right...

dont get me wrong i like the occasional chalenge but not everyone who has a M3 wants to race at every light. Sure there are "posers" in M3s but alot of the people driving them are more mature and would rather save it for the track than for the street where officer ba brady will be more than happy to make your insurance go up.

happy motoring

I suppose your right but it would be nice to race at least one. I'm the guy who always takes the challenge!! haha...I'm still having lots of fun with my car trying to find its limits. So I take every chance to test it. I would love to race on actual track but don't know where there is one in my area.

Im2nd2none,
Sorry, I guess I misunderstood your post regarding the typhoon and TA. I thought you said you had beaten them. I admire your coiurage to race all comers. I don't think that with front wheel drive, it would be feasible to approach low 5 sec 0-60 times. I could see mid to high 5.6 to 5.8 , 3.0 liter and supercahrger, with a quaife and the right tires and a damn good driver. The toughest part will be getting traction.

Like Gschomi said, there are not alot of bone stock Supras, RX7s, and 300ZXs around. With very slight mods, these cars are running in the mid to high 4 second range with 1/4 mile times in the high 13s over 100 mph. Btw, the RX7 pulled over 1G in lateral accelaration testing. That combined with below 5 second 0-60 and the right driver would put it right in the pack with most if not all so-called supercars i.e. Porsches, Ferraris, Lambos etc.

Hey I will tell ya a way right now, if your good with a wrench NATCC motor sleeved 2.0 300hp $2500 matching close ratio 5-speed with quaiffe, $2500, muffle it up slap it in basbell bat roll the fenders 18" magnesium alloys with the slicks, and you get maybe 5-6000 miles of M3 spanking contour, highly illegal on any road but its possible. Merko has those things for sale. Ok maybe 1500 miles.

I agree that anything is possible, but I don't think you can think "in the middle of the road" when you plan it. It's all out or stay home. Meaning you're going to pour TONS of money into the car to keep a) street legal and b) reliable. Personally, I don't see it otherwise. I wish it were as simple as a Stillen Kit for the Maxima or even a Supercharger for a Hyundai - but it's not. It's a shame that with perhaps $1500 and a smart mouse click, you can have a supra with over 400 HP (bhp). And if i did have a supra I would probably keep it looking stock - the thing looks wicked enough as is. But I digress. What I'm saying is is that without some major $$$ our cars are just going to be one step below that category. I'm foaming at the mouth thinking about a Vortec for my car - but at what cost? I wouldn't have the money to fix anything and if I did - I would probably get another car (WRX or S4).

I'm in no way discouraging you from trying. And hell - if you can take on these guys on a consistant basis, I'll give you $5 and apologize. But I'm just trying to justisfy putting my everyday car under that kind of stress with the little money I have. I know it can be done - just look at the recent Ford RS200. 0-60 in about 5.7 stock and Colin McRae said himself that it doesn't behave like a FWD car - but it's been designed that way. It's also been designed so that we'll probably never see it... But that's a different thread.

Ok..... sorry. Just something I've thought about.

Gotta love the fact that I live in an area where a 1/4-mile in the mid 14's will take
out 3 out of 4 cars on the road. There isn't much tuner traffic in these parts, so
I guess I've come to grips with the fact that anything beyond what I have done to this point is just throwing $$ away. Last summer, I think I only pulled about 8 races (highway) all year. Most of the time, when I came up behind a decent ride, they looked in the rearview and just slid over to the right lane. There just isn't that aggressive a community up here to streetrace, so I sort of envy all the action some of you get to partake in (safely); however...in a way, I'm glad I don't feel "pushed" into getting a supercharger just to compete with the locals. I mean...what would you rather have on Bermuda? A Lamborghini or a really quick Mini Cooper? I guess I'm just trying to say "balance" is the SVT's main attribute and I think adding "too" much horsepower might really ruin the sauce. I'll let Brad chime in on that since he's actually doing the mod. I just can't force myself to cough up $4K when that same amount of money can be used to MAKE $4K. For the rest of you who CAN do it, I say go for it....and let us know how it all turns out. One other note though....unless some SERIOUS modifications are going to be done to the transmission, even bolting a supercharger to an SVT is NOT going to put this car in the mid 5's. The Puff Contour was nowhere near that time and you can once again, blame traction as the reason (or lack of). The 1/4-mile and beyond will be the best barometer of change but the 0-60 dash just isn't the SVT's game.

Anything you guys say. None of you have a chance against an M3. My parents have an '98 stock M3 and my neighbor has an M5. The M3 first off is soo powerful that when you accelerate in second gear with the trac control off, you will loose control of the car. If both cars are running in fifth gear going 60 or 70, and they both drop to fourth the SVT is screwed right of the line. Only a supercharged 'tour could take on an M3 or even an M5. The M3 does o-60 in 5.4 stock and the M5 hit 0-60 in 4.7 stock. I have an SVT contour that I'm desperately trying to supercharge to make them regret all the money they invested in those croat cars.

A 2001 M3 came up behind me on the highway and passed me on the right. I followed him up to about 100 mph, but then I decided I like having my license too much to part with it.
