Ok so ford dealer wants to charge me $2500 for 3 new cats (98 SVT). I did some research and I am under the understanding that I can replace the exhaust manifold and pre cats with msds headers, and the main cat with a magnaflow high flow cat/y pipe combo for MUCH cheaper than replacing stock cats. Question is will this be all I need (headers and magnaflow y pipe/cat combo) and about how much will a mechanic want to install? thanks in advance eric

Book time for replacing headers if 5-5.5 hours. Not sure about the rest, but replacing your headers with MSDS removes cats so you may have to shop around for someone to do it as it may not be legal where you are.
$2500 sounds totally crazy to me. The first thing I did when I got my Mystique was price replacement cats (just incase) and they came to about $1100 or so CDN$ installed.

The only thing more you would need are MIL's to fool the ECU into thinking you still had precats.
Someone had an easy way of doing this using Spark Plug Anti-Foulers instead of the usual electronic kind.

But you're in luck, MIL's come with the MSDS Headers! Also, the headers come with an MSDS Y-Pipe, so you don't need to purchase a SHO-Shop y-pipe.

Anyone know of the best place to buy the headers and cat? Preferrably together, but i doubt one place sells both. -eric

Contact Marty @ MSDS Inc(www.msdsinc.com). You just missed the group buy that could have saved you 11% on the headers + y-pipe. As for the cat, depending on your state, you can purchase a test pipe from Trubendz(www.trubendz.com) that eliminates the main cat.

Thanks for the link. I am from VA, so I cant go with a test pipe. Gotta have the main cat. Even putting headers on is gonna be pushing the law a bit. Does anyone know where I can buy the main cat online? Does anyone know where I can buy the main cat online? I called around to local shops and everyone says there is no catalog listing for the 98 svt.
thanks,
eric
oh yea, would I be better off buying the magnaflow y-pipe and main catalytic convertor (from batinc.net)together, since they are already attached?

A factory fit cat will cost about 6x more than a 2.5" universal cat. So I suggest you buy a universal cat and have it fitted to you old y-pipe, or better still buy a BAT y-pipe from www.BATINC.net and call it a day.
