does anyone know why it is exactly that the stock intakes on our cars and several others have all those resonators and compartments all over the place before it actually enters the throtle body? just curious.

What in the world are you talking about? Not sure if you're considering the black fender draw, a resonator, but it's there to direct airflow, and I guess it does quiet it down. Other than that, there's an airbox, MAF, accordian tube, T/B, Intake Manifold.

I think those wacky Zetecs have resonators and other crap.

WACKY ZETEC!?! yeah we have the fender piece then the airbox, then this thingy where the temp sensor goes and that feeds into a resonator thing on top of the throttle body.. also in my subaru there are several box things on the way from the air in to the throtle body.. what gives? they certainly can't be cooling the air down only thing I can think of it to filter out large dirt pieces??

To make it quieter...remember, our cars were granny cars....don't wanna scare the old ladies too much.

The big one near the TB is a plenum. Without it you would have a loss of tq throughout the engine operating range.

they're talking about the resonator located half way between the airbox and the throttle body. Zetecs have these, but Duratecs don't. The resonator is there the IAT sensor is and the purpose of the resonator is only to make the sound of the intake more quiet. The resonator also gives information to the computer about the intake temp through the IAT sensor.

is there a way to remove that friggin' "quieter"/resonator thing??
