Under the car (Honest ) On the front right corner of the fuel tank. Look just behind the rear passenger door. The small silver (tarnished) cannister is it.
Thanks demon, do I need any special tools to remove it, my t-bird required a tool that compressed a spring to get it loose. I am still looking for the one on my wifes nissan quest.

the fuel filter on this car and most late model fords is located by the passenger side(right) rear wheel... its a round tank about 3 inches diameter and 3 inches long.. held in place onto the rail by a large hose clamp(screw on type) and the inlet and outlet tubes are held in place by plactic clips that you use a small(mini) screw driver to pull out and then pull off the hoses.. when i did mine i disconnected the inertia switch for the gas cut off and started it up to run the gas pressure off the line.. and when finished it just reconnected it and it started right up... the reason is i did not want to have gas shooting all over the place when disconnecting the hoses..
Just make sure you put the hoses back on ALL THE WAY and then secure it with the clips. There is a little lip on both ends of the filter that the clip attaches behind so it dosen't slip off. That is what happened to me. Driving afterwards, I gunned it and the car sputtered and then died. I was like WTF??? There was the hose just dangling off of the filter. A little lesson I will never forget.
