Hey CEG..

Any DirecTv users out there? I would like to upgrade my basic (no Tivo, DVR, HD etc.) box to a newer basic box so I can pick up the new stuff DTV is coming out with in the future (ActiveTv). My current one wont support the new software.

There is this Hughes box on Ebay that would be new enough to support the new changes that I am interested in for the price.

Anyone out there have this model and if so how do you like it?

Thanks for reading.. its appreciated!

I had that one, very simple to operate. It should support the newer stuff you're trying to get. I had mine running through a TiVo box. Instead of all that you might just want to go with a TiVo box w/DirectV built in. They only run about $100 now.

I've got an RCA DirecTivo box and it's OK at best. It has a problem wherein if it gets a bit too hot it'll stop sending the correct color information to the TV so I have to occasionally open the cabinet I keep it in.

What's this ActiveTV you speak of? I don't keep too current on DirecTV stuff.

Mmm I might have to upgrade if this ActiveTV works in conjunction with the Hot Network.

Since we're on the subject of DireTV receivers...I've been clinging to a 5+ year old Sony unit because it has a 'Favorites' menu. Basically it's 5 screens of 7 channels that you can shortcut to. The Hughes, RCA, and Uniden models that I've had experience with haven't had this type of feature, what about others?

I wonder if the Hot Network is going to be one of the new HD channels DTV is rolling out...

Thanks for the input guys.. I appreciate it!!

The newer Hughes have a favorites type menu where you can have your 9 favorite channels in a grouping.

I looked again and its actually called DirecTv Active.. click here for some info on DirecTv Active.

Lets keep this going.. own a different receiver? What would you like to see from DirecTv? Chime in.
