I am looking at getting the new iPod thing from Alpine which allows you to play your iPod through your head unit and control everything from the head unit just like the xm radio. I was wondering if this was compatable with any head units other than the new one with the sliding menu bar? Every where I looked i couldn't find what headunits it worked with and I was just hoping some of you knowledgeable audio folks could help me out.

p.s. i have the cda-9807 if that helps.

the alpine ipod adapter works on any AI Net alpine deck. My brother has a Alpine 7995 with the ipod adapter works fine.

thanks for the info, hopefully it will work then. Maybe I will ask my local audio shop to just make sure. Also, what is AI Net?

AI-Net is the s-video looking cable coming out of the back of your alpine head unit

Im in about the same situation as you right now, and i want you to know theres another option than the $100 ipod interface adapter unit.

I know the unit makes it so the ipod is controlled with your head unit, and also charges your ipod at the same time...
But if youd rather not spend the $100, you can just get an adapter cord that uses the same ai-net plug, but just plugs into your ipod's headphone jack, and plays through your alpines auxilery input.

The main difference is...the second option doesnt charge your ipod, and you still control the ipod by hand, while it still plays it through your head unit/speakers. Because it uses the same ai-net, the quality should be the same.
In total the second option is probably about $25.

If you decided to do that, the alpine part name is KCA-121b (its called an Alpine ai-net to RCA) and from there you just get any rca to minijack, which plugs right into the ipod.

Sorry for writin so much, if you wanna hear more about it, since im in the same situation, feel free to im (svtcontourrc) or pm.

I sold so many of the alpine kits when they came out. you can probably find them for around $70 since the release impact on the price has died down.
The main reason we sold so many of them (being in the theft replacement industry) is since you control the I-pod through the head-unit, there is no need to have the ipod out in the open. Our installers usually just ran the wires up to the back of the glove box. that way all you had to do was hook up the ipod, put it in the glove box completely out of sight and forget about it.
and if you know how to use the remote for your HU, you never need to look down for anything.
