The groundwork: Alpine 7893 Focal Polyglass 6.5" components Alpine Type R 6X9 Installed: $925
This went in my friend's Civic (tastefully modded) He doesn't know much about car audio, so he handed me a grand and sent me out for the day. I thought I did pretty good, seeing as I got $100 knocked off the Focals. (They tried Alpine comps. but they were too deep, so he gave me the Focals at the same price!)
Next step: Looking at some juice by McIntosh or Brax and 1 12" Lambda... Whatcha think?

no, not bad, but certainly pricey. my friend gave me the same challenge and i included a sub, amp and HU for the price. true, we're comparing pioneer, scanspeak, infinity , us accoustics to focal and alpine. it sounds good, but i wouldnt nessecarily say AS quality. just depends if you want lots of bang for your buck, or a smaller but higer quality core of sound, i spose
im sure it sounds very nice thugh!

I would trade the 6X9's for the amp or 12. It's just heard for me to fathom that the 6X9 have a sound that will mesh with the Focal. But for me you can mount 2 identical speakers on good and bad structure and I can hear the difference.
Anyway, the Focal will want much power and the Alpine will be super effecient  The Focal has a high Qms, so although it needs power, it will be very detailed, mean while the Alpine will be louder and just color over the Focal detail with mid bass mud. The tweeters should be about the same. It may work.
Still from the New Alpine stiff I have heard in Alpine vehicles, I would loose the Alpines. Or atleast don't mix them with Focal's.

Thanks for the replies and opinions. I played with the system for a bit before handing it back over, and I was pretty impressed with the Alpines. A bit of fade adjustment takes care of them overpowering the Focals, and they put out an impressive bump for a 6X9. Not going to shake anything loose, but you can actually hear the bass track on songs. Considering he started out just wanting speakers (Willing to spend $600 just on those! )I could have done a bit more in the back, but I convinced him that any speaker would sound better with the stock head unit out. Therefore something had to give. Overall, I'd say it's pretty balanced. BTW, I love the Alpine deck! It's a beauty!
