I looked in my haynes manual and saw no recommended schedule to replace it, although it's possible it was there and I didn't see it.

In some cases, such as a 4 cyl, it's not a bad idea to change it when you change your timing belt, but in your case I'm not sure how long they usually last.
If you don't have the $$ right now, then I would just not worry about it. Be aware of the temp gauge so if it ever fails you hopefully will notice before your car overheats enough to do any damage.
And I would also suggest that if you want to save money you could probably do it yourself without too much trouble.

If you want it to last longer, replace your thermostat and while the thermostat is out do a COMPLETE system flush. The rubber hoses corrode and cause the pump to leak...

Waterpump replacement takes 20 minutes, at most 40...

60 bucks for the part (or around that) and 30 minutes of your time... I can always afford that versus the 1200 for a new engine..

60,000 is pushing borrowed time(on the V6), as it usually runs..

And 95 seemed to be the worst year for impeller failure on that water pump. If it still has the original, I would change it now before it fails so you won't be stranded when it happens.

Its bad enough that EVEN THOUGH I have the revised impellar, I STILL travel, at all times, with a spare pump housing and gasket, coolant, and tools to change it no matter where I am..

I take it you have a 4cyl, then... Duratec is CAM driven, only thing on its own belt... tensioner moves by hand..

tada.. done.

Yup, the 4 banger is what I have. You need to remove too many things that normally should not be a problem on any other car. Can't take all of that off in the front yard on a jack stand.
