Took it in for state inspection/oil change/new tires (ouch!) and the mechanic discovered that the plastic clip that holds the pullrod for the rear bank secondaries was gone, and the pullrod was just hanging loose. New clip fixed it in a few minutes and it feels like it's new again. Made a HUGE difference in the power over 5000 RPM. That's all it was -- a plastic clip!

Now up to 221,000 miles. Built June 1997; no idea which number it was. Anyone hear of a CSVT with more miles than that?

Call 1-800-FORD-SVT to get your build date. You'll have to supply your VIN, an address for them to send the certificate, and possibly fax your registration or title for proof of ownership (I think .. not sure).

Well, yes, I do take care of it, but that doesn't mean I don't run the snot out of it fairly often. It's just common sense, but takes a little discipline. Here's what works for me:
1) keep your foot out of it until the engine is up to operating temp, and don't drive full interstate speeds until it's been running a few minutes -- stay in the slow lane (more if you're from up north in the cool season).
2) change oil at normal intervals commensurate with your driving habbits. I use synthetic changed every 10k miles. It's a lot more chemically stable. This engine uses a quart in about 6000 to 7000 miles. That's less than a lot of brand new ones.

Past that, I cant tell you how many thousands of times my tach has seen 6500 RPM in a 1-2, 2-3, or 3-4 shift.

I did notice, but I was not sure what was wrong for a while, and with this many miles, I was not willing to invest a lot to find out or to fix it.

Needless to say, it was like found money.
