I've just got to say I'm extremely pleased. The tweets sound great, very smooth and not bright at all (love textile domes). I'm very surprised with the mid-bass response of the Vifa woofers. They play very deep for only 5" woofers. The midrange is also good and nearly rivals the mids of my previous Focal components (replaced due to lack of mid-bass response despite top-notch mids).

I'm looking forward to tweeking the components a bit with the passive crossover controls (tweeter level and mid-range presence). I'll probably also put some XTC foam baffles behind them as I seem to get a little bit of water in the doors. I'm interested to see how they'll affect the sound too.

Some pics of the Neodymium Tweeter (Vifa D26NC-05-06), Vifa 5" Mid-Bass, and Soundstream Exact 5.3 Crossover. Their total cost was about $120 from Parts Express and well worth it.

Why did you choose 5" instead of 6.5?

PE doesn't sell a 4ohm 6.5" Vifa mid-bass anymore, or I probably would have gotten them. The 7" Vifa's at speakercity.com are an additional $40 + shipping and may have required a little metal trimming the way I mounted them. So, I guess it's $$$ and ease of installation.

Anyways, these 5" Vifa's have more mid-bass kick being driven by 25w than my former 6.5" Focals driven by 80w.

Wow! I'm glad you like them. I should have gotten those instead of the Audax I had for my SVT. If I ever get around to stereo mods on my new car, those Vifa's are high on my list. 6.5" would be better since that's what is stock, though. I already have some extra of the old $5 crossovers, though. What is the xover frequency of the Soundstream?

Nice setup. I also have some experience with the Vifa drivers. In the proper enclosure you can get -3dB output @ 42 Hz or even lower.

You can buy the Vifa 5" Midbass from Parts Express for $29/ea. Other Vifa/ScanSpeak components are available as well.

I had a pair of these at the rear of the doors of my ZX2 as extra bass drivers. They filled the passenger area quite well. Eventually I put them in computer aligned boxes with a pair of Vifa tweeters that are used as satellites for my home TV. Combined with a nice sub these are awesome speakers for the $$.

BTW, I'll soon be bi-amping these components with a pair of MTX Blue Thunder PRO502's.

I might even try to make some type of enclosure for them (the mounting depth in the doors of my Ranger is quite deep). Kick panels might be a better choice though. We shall see...
