I've had a clunk coming from the rear suspension for a while now and was wondering what the rear strut mounts looks like. I have a feeling that those might be my problem. I went to the dealer to get some prices and such and it looks like they sell them as seperate pieces. The rubber and the metal pieces are seperate. Is that right?

Any help would be great.

All you really need is the top part of the mount. I THINK you can even order these from AutoZone and save yourself an ass-raping from the dealer.

I'm trying my hardest to not go to the dealer for anything. I'll look into the just the rubber piece then.

Check your rear swaybar bushings. It's common for them to go bad and cause the clunk that you're describing.

I replaced them last year with poly bushings, but I will check them anyway. It could be anything I guess.

One other thing you may want to check. As stupid as it sounds, check your spare tire. If the hold down screw is a little loose that tire can rattle around pretty good over bumps and be tough to diagnose. Also check your jack/wrench bag. Make sure that is secure also.

I'll give that a try too.

Thanks for the replies.

I believe the end link bushings are the ones that usually cause this problem. I am assuming you changed the frame bushings.

I"m going to go with the thump in the trunk...of the bad non-rice kind..

When I first had my Tour it would always clunk. I finally reasized that the derp of intelligence that put the spare in had the lug wrench/cap popper offer sitting aside of the tire in the indent. So it was flopping around like a flag in a wind storm back there!

when i got mine, my lug wrench was also just sitting in the spare area. Was never really sure where it supposed to go... so i put it through the top of the jack. Problem with that is that the tire clamps down on top of the wrench and makes it difficult to secure the spare. Is that the proper location for it? Sorry for mildly going o/t.
