Hello CEGers!

Long live Contour.org
I'm new here. In fact I don't even have my Contour yet. I fly to CA (from MN) to get a black 2000 SVT next week. Should be a fun road trip back!
I already have plans. The first thing I'd like to do is replace the factory speakers. My budget is limited and my system will be high quality, but modest. I've done some research here and found that people are putting 6x9s in the doors. Since I am not going to do a subwoofer, getting a little bit more cone area would be good. I'd like to replace all 4 factory speaks with 6x9s. Do they fit in both the front and rear doors? According to Crutchfield's site, not even all the their 6x8s fit in the front doors. I saw on a thread here somewhere that Infinity 6x9s need to have some metal trimmed in order to fit in the front doors. Is that the case with some/most/all 6x9s? What about in back? I'd like to go with Boston RM9s, Alpines (high end 2ways with silk real dome tweeters--I forget the model number), Polk DX9s or something like that. Havent made the final decision yet. Has anyone done this? Anything I should know? Any words of wisdom you all could provide would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Duc1

Thanks C_P_W

They look interesting. The "real" crossover inspires confidence. But speaker sound is such a subjective thing (within limits), that I am very reluctant to pop for something that I haven't listened carefully to. That's why the Alpines are on the list. I wouldn't have considered them to be in the short list of candidates until I heard them. And I didn't like the Infinity Kappas as well as I thought I would.

Thanks again

welcome..my infinity 5x7's fit but all the holes didn't line up,i just took a self threading screw and screwed them in to make mew holes(very easy to screw into thin inner door panel...they sound great, and with a little tweaking they fit just fine..just about any 5x7 or 6x8 should fit with a little modification..and the sound is no comparison to stock...
