I was playing around with the drivers in the doors, because for some reason the Morels are hitting the plastic grill when under heavy bass.

I got to thinking,,,,I can borrow a dremel, and just cut that whole piece entirely or actually if I just cut a circle to expose the 6.5", I can make a custom round grill that can velcro or snap or whathavya....as long as its the same color, i would think it would look ok.

It was obvious that the plastic cover muffles a lot more sound than speaker cloth material would.
I only know one of us who worked on his door,,,teh dude with the 3 CDT ( I believe) drivers...
Also,,,that may allow me to place the tweeter next to the midbass...

I will keep the car for at least an extra 3 years till i finish paying for it...i think that missing plastic part wont upset the already dismal resale value...

THey are mounted on a MDF spacer,,,I had them on before with no problem,,as I also had the Peerless with no problem,,But this time i think its the rubber surrond that is rubbing against the plastic... i may just grind out a little bit of the spacer.

I thought about this for the front doors when I was working on mine. I didn't have the time to do it, but I was going to cut out the plastic grill (easy to do) and form a perforated metal grill to fit in it's place. I did a search on google for perforated metal and found some stuff that would work. I'm not sure if you have to buy in bulk or not though. Seems it could be possible, with some tin snips and a ball-peen hammer, and a wooden block to make some. Paint covers the rest and makes it look stock. They do sell the thin gauge perf sheet metal. I guess it depends on if you have the time or not to work it.
