i checked my amps grounds in the trunks, all fine, reran my speaker wire, helped a bit, got an alternator noise suppressor, helped a bit, seperated and taped power and rca cables, didnt help.

why the %#$#$ do i still have a whine? its faint, but its still there, high pitched, through the speakers, varies with rpms, doesnt vary with volume of stereo. thats all i can think to give detail wise. what is there possibly left for me to try?

Replace the head unit. That was my solution to the same problem.

What's the distance between the power and RCA cables? Seriously, if it's that bad, I probably would've gone stupid and totally demolished my system :p .

youve probably got an issue with your RCA's one of them could be pinched and causing an issue, A lot of it depends on how well your stuff was installed. Also, the rca inputs on your amp could be messed up as well.

Could also be your amp. I had the same problem with my Fosgate amp. Grounded it to sooo many places. Then i took it out, put in an Alpine amp, and the noise was gone.

Also, about 4 years ago, i installed a Jensen (don't laugh) amp in my work truck. Noise like hell. Returned it, bought a Pioneer amp, and the noise went away.

Moral of my stories? Amps caused all my noise troubles. Good luck!

What is your entire system consist of? You'll have to do a process of eleimination (remove one electronic component till you have no noise. Then figure out how its getting in.

That's probably not the problem though... I You might want to look at where your HU is getting its power from. Disconnect the stuff from the car's harness and power up you HU straight from the battery with some loose wires hanging off the window just as a test.

I found my HU's power was a big problem in my previous cars, I've always used individual power cable for that thing.

Just something else you can look at...

what would make an amplifier perform so badly compared to another one, noise contamination wise?

what are the probable culprits?

Knu is absolutely right. Check out this link under 2.1. It gives an excellent step by step approach to finding and eliminating your noise.
