How hard is it to swap out an alternator. In my stang it takes about 10 minutes, but on my contour, it looks like a headache and some long hours. Is this a shop job? For those that have done the swap, how did you do it. Thanks.

I paid a dealer like 200 to do it. I never want to try that again.

Ive replaced mine twice. Just did it again 2 weekends ago. Its time consuming, and would be very difficult if you dont have the right tools. I know with mine, I have to remove the lower ball joint from the knuckle and pull the axle shaft out because its oversized from stock. I think you can leave yours in and just remove the alternator. Once I got everything pulled out, it took about an hour to get it out because we didnt know what sockets, extensions, and where all the bolts were because some of them are difficult to reach. But once I figured all that out, I put the new one back in about 15 mins.

If you have some 1/4" wratchets, 1/4" deepdish sockets, regular 1/4" sockets, some small hands, and some short extensions.

Drop a note in that post if you decide to go at it, to let me know how the how-to helped you (or didn't help you..)

Had to do it once, don't ever want to do it again. Good Luck! You will need lots of extensions and u-joints or wobbles.
