Alright, so my car decided to take a crap the other day. Here's what happened ...
On my way up to Tahoe I was on the freeway when the check engine light started flashing. I know that's not a good thing, so I pulled over and turned the car off. Checked the oil level and it appeared kinda low. So my buddy that was following me took me to the gas station and we came back and put 2 quarts in.
Started her up and no check-engine light. So I merged back on the freeway and heard this awful rattling sound from the engine. The car was way down on power so I pulled off and had her towed back to my apartment.
I had a code-reader but my new laptop doesn't have a serial port on it anymore. So I don't really have a way of pulling the code. Not that I think it will help that much.
So any ideas as to what it might be? One of my friends suggested rod-knock. I don't honestly know. Any ideas would be appreciated.
The car is a '99 SVT. It's got 83K miles on it, 4 trackevents and 100+ dragstrip launches, so it's been abused a little
I've changed the oil every 3-4K miles w/ Mobil-1 5W30 and a Motorcraft filter. I don't track whether it's been burning oil as I pour the remainder into milk jugs for pickup, but it appears to be that it is/was since I had to add a couple quarts.
Thanks,
Jason Holmes
